  • Raphael Cueto

    Hi I’m Raphael Cueto.

    I’m a St Patrick’s College Old Boy.

Ive been playing basketball for as long as I can remember. My passion for basketball goes beyond just playing, everything that goes into the beautiful game. My goal for Triple Threat Basketball is that it gives an opportunity for Filipino Basketball players to better themselves both in the sport and out of it. Coming out of it as both a better basketball player and person.

I’ve coached for NZBA and Scots College (winning the College Sport Championship as an assistant coach to Kenny McFadden in 2021)

As a player I’m a former St Patrick’s College Wellington Junior A(College Sport Champion 2013 and Senior A (College Sport Champion 2016. Have been a Wellington Rep from U13-17 and Porirua Rep U23, and I’ve been playing Filipino Basketball for as long as well.

  • Yannis Tiavaasue

    Kia Ora, I’m Yannis Tiavaasue.

I’m a very proud Tawa College old boy and have played basketball since my college days amongst other sports, mainly volleyball. Basketball for me is an art form, an outlet to express yourself in any way you’d like.

My experience in coaching comes at various levels, with coaching basketball at the college level with various schools around Wellington and being an assistant coach at Porirua reps. However, I also was an assistant at a rugby academy in the US, which I did after high school.

As a player, I played in the Junior and Senior A teams across my five years at Tawa College, captaining both teams as well. I was a Porirua rep at the under 15s level. I have also played rugby in the US and overseas.

After a break from coaching, Triple Threat Basketball has given me an opportunity to give back to the next generation, with the added goal of supporting Filipino student-athletes to discover their potential and possibly play at the next level. This is something that excites me and I look forward to helping kids realise their potential, on and off the court.
